Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs

Meeting Minutes

September 24, 2009

The agenda was changed to reflect acceptance of July minutes.

Jeanne moved to accept the minutes. Charles seconded.

All agreed to accept the July minutes.

Website Building updates.

Judy shared the list of questions that Tim was looking for to finalize the website.

A list of questions was developed for Tim along with a possible index, mission statement and picture for the first page.

Intervale Update

Judy shared information in regard to the Intervale Compost Center’s Interim Certification and asked for a letter from the Commission to represent the Commission at upcoming FEMA meetings. Charles made a motion for Judy to draft a letter stating that Judy can attend the FEMA meetings as a Commission member representing the Commission’s interest on this issue.  Brad seconded the motion. Judy will draft a letter and forward it to commission members for final approval.

Vested Authority, Charles Delaney

Charles presented a report to the board on the progress he has been making in the area of vested authority. The board asked that Charles send a copy of the letter to Tim that was shared at the meeting and send the entire board a copy of Hinda Miller’s response. Charles was also asked to get all letters approved by the board before sending anything else out that appears to be representing the board. This topic was tabled for the next meeting agenda.

New Business

Charles asked that we discuss at the November meeting a schedule for 2010 meeting dates and locations.

Judy mentioned that two wampum belts are currently in the hands of Sotheby’s for auction and that some Abenaki and Mohawk people are working to try and retrieve the belts.  Judy suggested someone come to a future meeting and talk to us about this event. All agreed.
