Former Tribal Leader Sentenced For Gun Crimes Associated Press March 11, 2010
NEW LONDON, Conn. The former vice chairman of the Eastern Pequot tribe has been sentenced to 28 months in prison for illegally giving his convicted felon cousin guns to pay off what authorities say was a drug debt.
A New London Superior Court judge sentenced 47-year-old Mark Sebastian on Wednesday. His lawyer says he intends to file an appeal.
Prosecutors say Sebastian bought three pistols in 2005 and gave them and a fourth handgun to Calvin Sebastian, a convicted drug dealer now serving a federal prison sentence who was prohibited from possessing guns. Police said Mark Sebastian owed his cousin $1,000 for cocaine.
Mark Sebastian denied giving his cousin guns. His relatives say they're trying to post his $200,000 bail so he can remain free during his appeal.
