Jana Mashonee scores major label distribution for her new album 'New Moon Born' May 13, 2010 Native American Music Examiner
Native American recording artist Jana Mashonee has recently signed a deal between her independent record label Miss Molly Records and Sony/RED to release her newest CD, ‘New Moon Born’, into major market distribution usually associated with a major label release.
Jana is an eight-time NAMMY (Native American Music Awards) winner. Her Native American Music Awards include: Best Pop Rock Recording (2001), Song/Single of the Year (2002), Best Female Recording Artist (2003), Record of the Year (2006), Best Short Form Video (2008), and Song/Single of the Year for "A Change Is Gonna Come" from ‘New Moon Born’ in 2009.
As part of the launch for this new album AOL Music will be streaming the album for one week starting May 11. ‘New Moon Born’ features 18 tracks showcasing Jana’s powerfully sensitive and soulful vocals with songs that feature upbeat rhythms and a blues flavor.
‘Nothing prepares you for Mashonee's stark beauty & lush vocals’ reads a recent review from Curve Magazine and Cashbox calls ‘New Moon Born’ – ‘a breakout recording.’ The distribution deal for Mashonee’s latest recording is unique for a Native American artist, as this collaboration will include availability of ‘New Moon Born’ inside select Wal-Mart stores as well as other international distribution points. Many Native artists suffer from the lack of major distribution of their music and this new deal shows Jana is at the top of the heap in the Native American genre.
The album will be carried in worldwide retail outlets everywhere and Wal-Mart stores is planning a unique "8 for 18" promo campaign. ‘New Moon Born’ is selling for $8.00 and features 18 tracks including Jana's first Spanish language song, "Una Noche". The CD is scheduled to go on sale through Wal-Mart on May 11, 2010.
